About You: My interest in photography is a family thing with my dad having been a past president of Greenock Camera Club and my grandfather a member before him.
Tax free pay for summer jobs when I was a student in the late 70s and early 80s allowed me to buy my 35mm gear...an aperture priority automatic Pentax ME used for slide film and a manual Pentax MX always loaded with black and white film.
I joined Greenock CC around the same time and enjoyed some success with gritty black & white images of the declining docklands in Greenock. Selection of one of my prints for the SPF portfolio when I was in the beginners section allowed me to bypass the intermediate section and enter as an advance worker in my second year with the club, which, at that time was thriving with a healthy membership of around 50.
I continued to enjoy success at Greenock up until the fcirst of my kids was born in 91.

I resettled in Helensburgh in 2003 and married Kim the following year. I went along to HPC in 2004/5 but did not own a digital camera and was not active.
2006 saw me take the plunge and buy my first digital SLR. At first I was in a bit of a quandry as to what besst to photograph as Helensburgh is a bit short on derelict docklands. With inspiration from some great photographers on the Ephotozine website it soon became apparent that the best photographic resource was all around mr in the local landscape which has become my new trademark and allowed me to enjoy new success at HPC at club, and inter club levels and in the SPF portfolio.
This year has seen diversions into macro and some wildlife photography, and not forgetting aviation which was what prompted me to take up photography in the first place.

Membership of HPC allowed my work to come to the attention of Al Arino at Pixart who now has a number of my images for sale.
A place in the 2008 LLTTL competition and the subsequent use of the image on the cover of the Friends Of Loch Lomond Magazine brought my work to the attention of fiona Butcher at the Mansefield Gallery in Arrochar, resulting in an ongoing exhibition of my pictures.

I have met many new good friends and photographers at HPC who share the fun of photography, with the emphasis strongly on fun.

None of this would have happened without HPC
