If you live in the Helensburgh area, and have an interest in photography, then why not come along to our club to find out what it's all about? Our members range from absolute beginners to seasoned photographers, and cover a wide range of styles and interests. You don't need to own the latest and most expensive camera equipment to take part - even the cheapest point-and-shoot camera is capable of taking great photos. If you don't own a camera at all, there's still a lot to see and learn, and you certainly don't need any equipment to be able to appreciate good photography!

What is on the website?

Take some time to browse around the website and you'll find information about the club, tips about photography and image editing, details of club events past, present and future, as well as lots of images produced by club members. The site is constantly changing, and more pictures and information are added frequently, so it's worth visiting often.

Details of club competitions and competition rules can be found here in the Programme section of the website, along with details of what events are coming up.

SPF Portfolio Results 2010

Well done to all of you that got acceptances.....We had 14 accepted to the portfolio this year, a healthy number as you will see. Special well dones to our new starts Lois and Neil who each got an acceptance, as did Alan Cotton who's been doing photography elsewhere for a year or two. Other acceptances are Su Floyd, Jon Stockwood, Tom Watt, John Crawford, Kim Phillips and Guy Phillips. Notable acceptances for Su and Allan, each being awarded a 13......those do not get handed out like sweeties. For those of you that hit the bar and didn't quite make the 12 marks aceptance level, better luck next time. A good solid result for the Club.

Practical Photography Sessions

The first nights Practical Photgraphy session went really well - 6 of us turned up and had a laugh interspersed with discussions about camera's, all things photography and many other subjects that just happened to come up!! After much discussion last night it was decided to change the night back to the original idea of a Tuesday night. Due to there being a committee meeting next week on the Tuesday we are going to move the night next week to the Thursday (6th May) at 7.30pm, and then from Tuesday 11th May we will be at the Commodore from 7.30pm every Tuesday (hopefully) until the club starts back. the more the merrier, once the better weather starts we can sit outside in the sunshine as well. See you all soon, take care

So, what do we do at the club?

The club season runs from September to April each year. During that period we meet each Tuesday evening at the Helensburgh Sailing Club - see here for how to find us. Each season we have a varied programme of events, which includes presentations from visiting experts, tutorials, hands-on sessions, social events and of course competitions. There are also various informal outings where groups of members head out in search of the next great photograph.

The west coast of Scotland is a fantastic place to practise photography - we have stunning scenery, varied wildlife, some great sunsets, great architecture and many interesting characters to capture. The club is a great way to meet and exchange ideas with people that share a keen interest in photography. If you are thinking of heading out to do some outdoor photography in the local area, you can review the weather and tides in the box to the right.
