Competitions for 2009-2010 Season
We have a varied selection of competitions this season, all of which are judged by people outwith the club. All the internal competitions are divided into Beginner and Open sections. Any new members are automatically eligible for entry into the Beginner's section (unless they are already experienced and of a standard to go straight into the Open section).
Points are awarded for competition entries, and the entrants with the highest totals at the end of the season are awarded Beginner of the Year and Photographer of the Year titles. Beginners who come 1st in one or more club competitions are eligible for the Open section the next season.
Competition and overall winner trophies are handed out at the Annual Prizegiving at the end of the season.
You may also be interested to see the results from this year's SPF portfolio here. There is a tab at the bottom of the page to select individual results, our club's results, and overall club standings.

Only one entry of three images is allowed and all must be in the same medium.

RiverDrive Challenge
Digital images, colour or monochrome prints on the theme 'Fine art nude'. Maximum entry is three. Sponsored by RiverDrive Studios.
Frank Walton Trophy (November)
Judging for the Frank Walton Trophy takes place in a different Club each year. Other clubs taking part are Oban Photographic Club, Mid Argyll Camera Club and Cowal Camera Club. Each club puts forward twenty images, with no more than three images coming from any individual member. Images cannot be re-submitted in subsequent years.
This is a fun evening, with a chance for a friendly get-together.
Print Battle with Clydebank CC (March)
Our annual competition with Clydebank Camera Club. Twenty print entries from each club are evaluated by an external judge, with only two entries allowed by any one individual, and no entries from previous years accepted. There's a healthy sense of competition between the two clubs that has made for some very enjoyable evenings.
SPF Print and Slide Championship
Two competitions open to all photographic clubs in Scotland. Run by the Scottish Photographic Federation, the standard is extremely high and the competition very intense. Helensburgh Photographic Club enters the print championship each year, and the slide portfolio if we have enough entries.
