Uploading a photo to the HPC website

Some club members have asked for help with uploading photos to galleries on the HPC website. Hopefully this article will help.

The first step is to prepare your image for the website, by resizing it and saving it as a JPEG file with the correct quality level and naming style. If you are not sure how to do this, please take a look at the detailed Image Resizing Tutorial which covers all these topics.

Once you have one or more image files saved ready for upload, here's how to get them onto the HPC website:


From the Gallery Area section of the site, click on the Upload File tab. This is only available if you have logged into the website.


You should now see the Upload File dialogue box. This lets you upload files to any gallery that you have permissions for.


Now, click on the drop-down box to select which album to upload your picture to.


You should get a list of all your personal albums (if you have created any), plus any competition albums that you can upload to. Select the appropriate album.


Next, click on the Browse button to bring up a file selection dialogue box. This lets you navigate to the image you are interested in.


Once you have selected the correct image, type in the image title and (optionally) a description of the image. This might give more information about how the image was taken, the location, time of day, and so on. You might also want to fill in the keywords field (with a list of words that could be used to search for this image), plus the camera, lens etc.


Once you have filled in all the fields of interest, click on the Upload Picture button. You will see some blue stripes as the image uploads to the HPC website. The upload could take a while if you have a slow internet connection. The upload will fail if the image file size is too large, or if the image dimensions are greater than 1920 x 1080.

If your upload is successful, try going to the appropriate gallery to view your image. Once you have uploaded one image, you'll find it a lot easier to upload the next one. Feel free to upload all your best images - there are no limits!
